How We Commemorated the One Year Anniversary of the October 7 Massacre
Golda Och Academy commemorated the tragic one-year anniversary of the October 7, 2023 massacre of Jews by Hamas with age-appropriate programming on both of its campuses.
On the Lower School campus, we gathered together for Morning Meeting by lighting a yahrtzeit candle, sharing special readings and singing songs of peace. Our youngest grades learned about tikvah (hope), connections and doing good while 3rd through 5th graders gathered for a ceremony, which included our rishon from last year, Daniel, who Zoomed in from Israel. Daniel spoke about how life in Israel is different and about the unit he will be drafted into in the IDF.
On the Upper School campus, we were honored to host the Rishonim Greater MetroWest cohort for a panel discussion led by members of our Student Council. We are so grateful to the rishonim for sharing their lived experiences as teenagers in Israel over the past year.
In addition, GOA alumnus Benjamin Bargad ’20 shared his experience of serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that day. Please watch the video here.
We pray for peace for Israel, its neighbors and the world. #AmYisraelChai
