Yom HaShoah Commemorated With Guest Speakers and Classroom Lessons
To commemorate Yom HaShoah, our students gathered this morning to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children who perished in the Holocaust.
At the Upper School, Mr. Jeffrey Cymbler, a child and grandchild of Holocaust survivors, spoke with our students about his family's survival story as part of the Sala Elbaum z"l Yom HaShoah Program. We thank school parent Lawrence Elbaum ’98, past board member, for introducing the program which was created by Steven and Judy Elbaum in memory of their parents, Sala Elbaum z"l and David Urman z"l, who were Holocaust survivors.
At the Lower School, our commemoration included age-appropriate lessons for each grade. Our 3rd-5th graders had a special tekes, led by the 5th grade who read the names of their family members, or friends’ family members, who survived the Holocaust. We were also honored to welcome Mara Berger to our school who shared her grandmother's powerful story. Special thanks to Jeffrey Cymbler, the Elbaum family and Mara Berger for helping to keep the stories of the Holocaust alive.
