High School Mock Trial Team Enters Preliminary Round of State Competition
This week, nine GOA high school students and their faculty advisor Mr. Michael Stern traveled to Veteran's Courthouse in Newark to compete in the preliminary round of the annual Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition that invites teams from all over the State of New Jersey.
Students from 22 schools in Essex County participated in this preliminary regional round. This year's criminal case is a fictional college admissions fraud case, with students simulating the roles of defendants, attorneys, and witnesses.
The GOA team comprised mostly of 9th grade students and a few 11th grade students performed well and gained courtroom experience to build excitement for returning in the upcoming years.
