High School Theater Presents The Winter Musical "Once Upon a Mattress"
High school cast and crew proudly presented their musical production of "Once Upon a Mattress" at the Maurice Levin Theater at the JCC MetroWest in West Orange, NJ. Showdates were January 11, 12, and 14, 2024.
"Once Upon a Mattress" is a musical comedy with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. It opened off-Broadway in May 1959, and then moved to Broadway. The play was written as a humorous adaptation of the 1835 Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea". In the musical version of The Princess and the Pea, Princess Winnifred is an ungainly, brash girl competing for the hand of Prince Dauntless, whose domineering mother Queen Aggravain has declared he must marry a "true" princess before anyone else in the kingdom can marry.
