In an effort to further bolster the academic excellence of the area’s Jewish day schools, the MetroWest community and private donors are investing $1million in the professional development of teachers.

The four-year program, known as “The Quest for Teaching Excellence,” will support and enhance the work of every teacher in every classroom in each of three Jewish day schools: Golda Och Academy in West Orange, Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy/Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School in Livingston, and Nathan Bohrer-Abraham Kaufman Hebrew Academy of Morris County in Randolph.

We look forward to sharing more information with you in the future. In the meantime, a more detailed overview of the plan is available below.

On Nov. 23, the National Honor Society will be sponsoring our 15th Annual Walk for Life to raise money for bone marrow testing.  Each year thousands of people are diagnosed with fatal blood diseases; 25 of those people die every day.  For those who continue to fight, their only hope is a bone marrow transplant, for which only 30% of those in need find a compatible donor within their own families.  Meanwhile, the rest must search for a suitable, outside donor, a process that includes the expensive task of organizing and financing blood-testing drives.  It is especially hard for Jews and other minorities to find a match, because the best chance of finding one lies within the same ethnic background as that of the patient. In an effort to help alleviate the financial pressure of the search process, GOA students at each of the campuses will be participating in a symbolic Walk for Life.  Each walker is asked to invite as many sponsors as possible to donate money in multiples of chai (18).  Our goal is to have 100% participation within the GOA community with as many sponsors as possible giving $18.00 or more. Time is running out for many in need.  We encourage you to continue to fulfill the mitzvah of pikuach nefesh, the saving of a life. For more information, click here.
